Hi guys
Oct 31, 2019 Use the Mac operating system that came with your Mac, or a compatible newer version If you try to use an incompatible macOS, your Mac might not finish starting up, or it might behave unexpectedly. If you try to start up your Mac from a hard disk, network volume, or Time Machine backup that contains an incompatible version or build of macOS. The current Mac operating system is macOS, originally named 'Mac OS X' until 2012 and then 'OS X' until 2016. Developed between 1997 and 2001 after Apple's purchase of NeXT, Mac OS X brought an entirely new architecture based on NeXTSTEP, a Unix system, that eliminated many of the technical challenges that the classic Mac OS faced.
I am about to sell my Mac Mini (June 2011). I acidentally deleted my hard drive, including the operating system 'partition' that is set up by default. When I start up the Mac, a folder with a ? appears.
Mac mini features the Apple T2 Security Chip — second-generation custom Mac silicon designed by Apple to make Mac mini even more secure. The T2 Security Chip consolidates several controllers into one, and includes a Secure Enclave coprocessor that provides the foundation for encrypted storage and secure boot capabilities. Acoustics measured from typical operator position sitting in front of standard Mac mini system. Acoustics may vary by configuration. IMovie, GarageBand, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are available on the Mac App Store. Aug 10, 2020 macOS Recovery makes it easy to reinstall the Mac operating system, even if you need to erase your startup disk first. All you need is a connection to the Internet. If a wireless network is available, you can choose it from the Wi-Fi menu, which is also available in macOS Recovery.
I found my old copy of Snow Leopard and tried to install that over an external DVD drive. Sadly, this does not seem to work. When I boot up with the DVD drive attached, pressing either options or command+r, the Mac boots with the Apple symbol but does not seem to move beyond it.
Is there any way I can fix this?
I have the following at my disposal:
A DVD drive
Snow Leopard DVD
An external hard drive that I cannot erase, but could install something on
The internet (to download stuff from)
Thanks
